The dishwasher did it

My dishwasher ate something. 

I am not in the habit of losing things. Imagine my surprise when I found out yesterday that my dishwasher had disappeared the plastic lid of a little food box. Of course I looked inside, at the sides, top and bottom. I looked inside the pots and pans that had been in the same cycle. I even took out the little filter thingy to see if it had magically gotten stuck in there. Which by the way is way too small for the lid. It is still not there. It is gone. Definately. Doubts creep in... did I actually put it in? Yes I really think so but maybe I am just crazy. And if not why is it not on the counter with all the other dirty stuff. 

So where is it? I cannot let it go, it keeps occupying my mind. I keep looking for it. Imagining a little dishwasher gnome giggling at me and rearranging my stuff. 

Maybe it will be returned to me the next cycle. Or if I do a little dishwasher gnome dance. Hmmm... a small intriguing mystery.

By the way, I googled " Help my dishwasher ate something" and the results were dismal. Am I really the only one out there who has lost something in a dishwasher??
